Syntara

At Syntara, we are a group of psychotherapists and facilitators who have come together with a shared vision: to create a space where deep healing and transformation can unfold in a way that feels grounded in psychotherapeutic training, professional integrity and methodological care, as well as in ancient wisdom and traditions.

We have thoughtfully and lovingly created this retreat to provide a setting that honors both the wisdom of plant medicine traditions and the psychological realities of the modern world. While many plant medicine retreats attempt to replicate indigenous or shamanic settings, these approaches may not always resonate with those unfamiliar with such traditions. There can be a misalignment—an unintended gap between ancient practices and contemporary psychological frameworks. Our aim is to bridge that gap with sensitivity and integrity.

Syntara Retreats is designed for those who feel called to work with plant medicine but seek a setting that is both respectful of its traditions and attuned to the complexities of personal transformation. We honor the lineages that have safeguarded these medicines for millennia, while also recognizing that healing today often requires an approach that integrates traditional wisdom with contemporary understanding.

As we move through an era of rapid innovation and societal change, many of us have become increasingly disconnected from nature and from the ancestral wisdom that once guided our lives. Indigenous cultures have long maintained a sacred relationship with the earth, passing down knowledge of plants and their healing properties through generations. Their ceremonies were not merely medicinal but holistic, addressing the spiritual, emotional, and physical aspects of well-being. Over time, this wisdom has been eroded, leaving many of us searching for ways to reconnect.

At Syntara, we recognize this need for connection and the longing many people feel to return to a more integrated way of being. We believe that working with plant medicine is not about appropriating traditions, but about learning from them with humility and respect. Our retreats aim to honor the past while addressing the present, offering a space where participants can engage with these powerful medicines in a setting that feels both safe and deeply intentional.

If you are seeking a retreat that balances reverence for ancient traditions with a contemporary understanding of personal healing, Syntara may be the space for you. Here, we offer a bridge between worlds—a place where you can explore plant medicine with curiosity, respect, and the support needed to integrate your journey into daily life. Healing is not about returning to the past; it is about carrying forward the wisdom of those who came before us in a way that is meaningful and transformative for today’s world.

While we are all trained psychotherapists, we do not offer psychotherapy at our retreats. It is important to clarify that, although numerous research projects worldwide are currently exploring the efficacy and healing potential of psilocybin, it is not yet recognized as a treatment for mental health conditions. Therefore, our presence at Syntara is not in the capacity of psychotherapists, but as experienced space holders, bringing our knowledge and care to support your journey.

Standing on the shoulders of those who have walked before us, we acknowledge that these traditions—whether shamanic, philosophical, or psychotherapeutic—are not relics of the past but living systems of knowledge that continue to shape and transform us. We honor the teachings they offer, carrying them forward in ways that respect their depth, sacredness, and connection to the earth. In doing so, we reclaim something vital—not just for ourselves, but for the healing of the world itself.
